USD ViCAM: Our Philosophy

What Vis Moot Means to Us

Welcome from the University of San Diego Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Team.  We are helping to build skilled legal professionals in commercial arbitration who are able to effectively communicate and serve their clients across the globe.  Our team members learn the academic aspects of international commercial law and arbitration procedure.  We also receive practical, hands-on training through a dedicated support network and compete overseas across the table from lawyers of other countries.

We understand and embrace the growing importance of alternative dispute resolution in our society.  With the ever-increasing global trade in goods, there is a need for lawyers who are trained and practiced in handling disputes in the sale of goods across national boundaries.  It is essential that lawyers have honed a practical ability to communicate across language and cultural barriers, as well as understand the complex procedural issues of international arbitration and the intricacies of the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG).

Furthermore, our team is committed to promoting ADR and other types of skills training both on the university level and in the community at large.  Changes in our society dictate that future conflicts between corporations and individuals of different nations will be solved by nontraditional methods.  Most civil litigation cases already include some alternative dispute resolution component.  We believe the future needs of our clients will be best served by individuals who can read critically, think analytically, and speak fluidly.  Our organization builds better lawyers and produces individuals with the skills training that firms are already actively seeking.

We are proud to represent the University of San Diego School of Law and the greater San Diego legal community around the globe in this developing and growing area of legal study and practice.
